Home Additions
Systems andthe tie-inwhere new meets old.
An addition is not only more floor area. It is more load on systems that were sized for the house as it used to be.

In detail
Systems & tie-in
Before anything is extended we check what the existing systems can actually carry. A panel already close to capacity will not take an addition without an upgrade, and a furnace or heat pump sized for the original floor area will struggle to condition more of it. We run the load calculation and the panel schedule and give you a straight answer: extend, or give the addition its own zone. A dedicated zone frequently costs less than upsizing everything, and it conditions the new space better.
The tie-in is where two buildings become one. Structural connection, floor levels matched so there is no step at the threshold, insulation carried across the junction instead of stopping at it, and interior finishes run through so the new rooms read as part of the house. Done properly, nobody standing inside can tell you where the original exterior wall used to be.

Questions
Asked most aboutsystems & tie-in
Will my existing furnace and electrical panel handle an addition?
Sometimes — and it is worth establishing before you assume it either way. We calculate the added heating and cooling load and total the new electrical demand against the panel rating. Where either falls short we price the upgrade alongside a separate zone or subpanel, so you can see which route is genuinely cheaper rather than which one sounds simpler.
Can the addition have its own heating and cooling?
Yes, and it is often the better answer. A dedicated zone serving only the new space avoids upsizing the whole house, gives independent control of rooms that will be used differently, and leaves the balance of the existing distribution alone instead of degrading it.
